Monday Made It {August 11}

I'm linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for Monday Made It.  This is my last one of the summer.  Good thing I made good use of my time this week!

This isn't really a "made it", but I did assemble, so I'm counting it :).  Thanks to Reagan Tunstall (Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits) for the awesome labels!  I put together my math journals.  Composition books were 10 cents at Office Max last week.  I might have made a few trips (and price matched at WalMart).  I added the ribbon to be a bookmark so finding today's page shouldn't be the most difficult thing about math journals!  Remember, I teach K, finding the right page can be torture!

Using labels from the same set above, I created my writer's workshop folders.  I picked up the plastic-like poly folders for $.50 each from Target.  In each folder, there is an "in progress" side and a "published" side.  I also added a zipper pencil pouch for students store a space man and vocabulary words (and anything I else we decide they need during the year).

I picked up some card games and know that K kiddos can have a difficult time managing cards, so I made some card holders.  I've seen these a few different places (blogs & Pinterest) and thought they'd fit my budget.  Here are my step-by-step instructions.

Gathered my materials: pool noodle (thanks Dollar Tree!), kitchen knife and a tape measure.

I cut the pool noodle into 12" sections.  You can get 4 pieces from one pool noodle.
Using the knife, cut a slit across the top of the pool noodle.  I left an inch or 2 uncut on each end.  I did not cut all the way through the bottom either.
Here you can see the slit.  I put black Sharpie dots at each end of the slit so my kiddos know which side of the noodle has the cut.
Here is one of my pool noodles with the only little cards I could find (just cut those out).

I used the noodle shaped like a flower.  This way I did not have to cut the bottom of the noodle to keep it from rolling.  This shaped noodle stays put without any modifications.

I whipped up some pasta salad.  It has grilled chicken, chunked mozzarella cheese, zucchini, pepper, carrots and is tossed with red wine vinaigrette dressing.  It was pretty tasty!

That's it for my "made-its" this week.  Be sure to stop back tomorrow as I celebrate 100 followers!  There will be 2 giveaways happening.  One will be for a Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpener.  You can read my review here. I'll hope you'll join me!

  1. That is such a good idea for the bookmark in the composition notebooks! I love it! I also made several trips to different Office Depots/Office Max's and then they ended up not being too picky at Walmart and they let me get 20 to finish off my goal:) I needed 50 because I teach two different classes of first grade! Thanks for sharing:)

    1. If I would have realized just how easy it was, I probably would have done it a while ago! :) Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I love the ribbon idea for the journals! Last year a few of my sweeties would turn every single page to find the right spot :)
